Was curious as to the most amount of miles that you've heard comin out of a 5.3 motor which has not been modded (stock motor)...I have 189,000 on mine and i'm sorta setting aside a little slush fund in case something goes wrong...what is commonly replaced on these motors?

i've already had my tranny rebuilt by Goebel at 152,000 miles and its running very strong, and the transfercase might be a little bad, but other than that the motor is gonna be the most $ to replace...

We are replacing one at the shop now. Its a 99 with 284k on it. The guy just wanted to replace it because it had a slight knock in it. It still run fine.

 

I know a couple guys around TX with over 200K on there 5.3 and do alot of towing.

If you just get a whim and want to replace the 5.3, you can sometimes find them with 25-50k on them for $500-600 plus shipping. Alot of people swap out to 6.0's and sell there 5.3's cheap.

 

we had an oil field pumper finally get rid of his 2001 z71 after 315,000 miles. ive lost count how many u joints we've put in it the last 2 years, seemed like once a month

 

A friend of mine works for an industrial contractor and they just pulled the engine from a truck with ~240k on it. They had been through multiple transmissions (I think that is what he said four) but was on the original engine. The trucks with this company usually live very hard lives since they are used to run around jobsites and the drivers usually milk them for everything they are worth . He called to ask me if I knew anyone that needed a 5.3 engine since he could get quite a deal on it (probably free to get it out of the way).

 

man 284K, i thought 122k was getting up there.
