Yeah, and it has for about the last 200k. It got worse as my oil pump got worse, and got 10x better when I replaced the pump, but on cold mornings it still has some knock. I'd always thought it was piston slap, but when the oil pump effected it, I figured out it wasn't.

Congrats that is cool. Gives me hope that my 6.0 with basically stock parameters might last me a long long time which given the cost of my swap would be a great thing!

its seen the red on the tach many a time. Especially back when it was new-ish and not mine

How about other than internal...like intake manifold gaskets,alternators,starters,etc. ?

Damn... I kept my '02 Yukon well-maintained, and the #7 connecting rod flipped me the bird before it left the block. And that motor was bone stock (never had a wrench turned on it). That was at 111,000 miles. Guess I had one of "those" lemons.

Congrats on the half-a-mil miles! That's freakin' awesome!

The only things that have been replaced in the engine bay are the oil pump, spark plugs, and a/c compressor. Oh, and the injectors... there was a surging problem that we thought might have been an injector, so we replaced them...turned out that didn't do anything to the surging... oh well.
