I recently bought a 2500hd for mainly towing my woods buggy, pulling a sled at competitions and also a trip or two to the drag strip and that's it.

Are there any little tricks or tips anyone has to get the most aggressive tune possible, and by that I mean a custom tune?
I was reading that while running a lower temp stat you can get a more aggressive tune, which was news to me. I didn't know that adding such a small part would allow this. Are there any other little odds and end's that can be done to get the best possible tune? Nothing major like internals, that comes later down the road, but just simple little stuff.

alchohol injection will allow you to run more timing before detonation. Cools the incoming air and also acts as a octane booster. The lower thermostat just lowers your emgines operating temp which helps a wee bit.

 

Why risk it for 2-3 hp? Just start modding it if you are looking for more power. You're going about it all wrong. IMO, a daily driven vehicle should not have an aggressive tune.

 

Anything significant you get out of a custom tune gets you closer to problems (or disaster). If you're truly looking for more power, get a cam, a higher-RPM torque converter, or both. If you really want more power, get a blower or turbo.

 

A tune isn't going to get you anything for towing power. You'll get a some ponies up top by leaning the fuel mixture and increasing timing though.

Buy an extra motor. Tune the one as far as you can until it blows up. Put the spare motor in, pull the timing back 2 or 3 degrees and you're all set. You've just tuned it as aggressive as you can.

 

theres not a lot to do tuning wise on a stock truck, the biggest thing on the 6.0 hd trucks is take out the 60 second delay for power enrichment, thats a 20-30hp gain then set your timing were you not getting any detenation. not necessarily an aggressive tune but just being tuned right.
