i remember reading a while back that the optimum operating temperature for an ls1 was in the 170s, with a 160 tstat your not all the way there but your a hell of a lot close than with the stock tstat

For Performance purposes running it at 170-178 degrees is optimum.
For Emissions purposes running it at 210-215 degrees is optimum.
Most of us here are less concerned with emissions and more concerned with performance, which is why we go with cooler thermostats.

uhh.... nope, i think you misunderstood me <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />
it should automatically be assumed that anything i say is going to be for performance and not for helping me get cleaner emmissions, as with most other people on this site like you said
thats why i said optimum temperature is in the 170s. Which is exactly what you said for the optimum temperature for performance gain.
my reply wasnt directly related to the post above. I just saying what the REAL optimum temp was, not the optimum temp for best emmissions.

Gotcha Bryan, just wanted to clarify. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />
Trust me, I could care less about emissions myself. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

Also, are you gauging this from reading your temp gauge? If so, the temp gauge on the instrument cluster is far from being the most accurate in the world.
