Truck Won't Hook From A Stop :( HELP
#1
Guys the truck wont hook at all from a stop or from a say 10 punch or so Anyone know what tires or wheels I could go with to help this problem out? I was thinking maybe Avalanche 17s with a wider tire?!?!?!

with how much power your engine has and your converter, going along with no wait in the back and your gears. you just have the exact oposite of a traction friendly setup
but do you really think you can get any nice ammount of traction without using drag radials?
some 315 nitto 555r's would prob work out alright though

I know the feeling...
I have a set of Budnick Fat Lip Fomosas and some Nitto 305/40R18s 555Rs looming in the near future. I've given up with hooking on street radials...even 30+ inch tall tires with a 10" contact patch doesn't cut it.

I would start with a 285 or larger. I like my Yokohama AVS. They seem to hook better now. I think Nittos will hook a little better from what I read. Of course, you could always get drag radials and go into every turn in reverse on a wet day. You don't have any traction control bars yet do you?

I gots me a traction control button!
I thought ahead, last truck with bald tires ended up through a brick fence in some ladies back yard.

I also have the Yoko AVS and it took about 2500 miles for them to start hooking up ok. I was really dissapointed at first.
Also a little info on DR I have gathered:
BFGs hook better on both the track and street without burning them up but the Nittos hook just as well if you heat them up good and are a more streetable tire. The Nittos will last a tad longer that the BFGs. Like I said, this is just info I have gathered, I do not speek from personal experience.

I agree with BigKid:
I had BFGs on the 95' Imapla and ran 1.71 60 fts all day long at the track. On the street I could run with the Hal shocks set-up, a 125 RWHP dry nitrous kit and not have unecessary wheelspin.
For perfromance the BFGs are winner hands down but I could only get 3000 miles from each set of 275/40R17 DRs. The Nitto 555R are a good compromise and since I plan on a "street" wheel/tire combo with 18's and race set of "slicks 'n' skinnies" on 16's the Nitto is my only choice (305/40R18)
