Default megasquirt questions (parish)

is there a good place thet has every thing you need to buy in one spot there web site sucks it hard to find what all we need to get. if you go to digi key then you have to get a programer for the ecu. but if you go to Bowling and Grippo then you don't but you still have to go to digikey to get the rest. where do we get the parts for the spark side for megasquirtnspark.

please help.

Spark side of Megasquirt requires no extra hardware - you need to run the MegasquirtNSpark (also known as the "Extra" code) firmware, then you use the circuit originally designed to control a Fast Idle valve to control the spark instead.

In a distributor-equipped motor, you trigger an ignition (like MSD 6 or 7) with this FIdle circuit; in a distributorless engine (LS1s), you'd need to adapt the Ford EDIS system. It's already been done by a LS1tech member, on an 8100 motor in a pickup truck. This is what we're planning on doing Parish8's ignition control with, stay tuned for updates.

Are you building your own megasquirt? Make sure you get the latest mega manual from the top of the MS-EFI.com forums homepage. That one is being updated continuously.

sweat thanks for the help. what if we wanted to run the fast idle valve also? thats the iac right? we were looking into going full stand alone. or can we let the ecu run every thing but the timing and fuel? we are new at this but i like doing new stuff. i think it will be fun soon as we can get it all together and understand it. if its ok i may have a few more questions for you in the future.

www.glensgarage.com has a nice complete Megasquirt kit.

The Fast Idle Valve referenced in the Megasquirt docs is a european valve that is tierh open or closed, where an IAC motor can be opened anywhere between 0-100% (halfway, for example, 50% - cannot be done on a Fidle valve). You can use these for fast idle if necessary. On Jim's truck, the throttle (by-wire) is used to control idle, so there's neither a valve or IAC motor - just the factory PCM holding the throttle open to maintain target RPMs. Megasquirt seems to work fine alongside the factory PCM, even though the injectors are no longer attached to the factory PCM.

I think the best solution is having Megasquirt do timing and fuel, and only let the factory PCM do IAC & trans control if necessary, otherwise ditch the GM PCM.

keep those questions coming,

I think Mike needs one for his Honda, but i need one for my Blazer so i can get rid of the damn crappy intake manifold and upgrade the injectors. I also need to be able to retard the timing for about 12-15psi boost.

Will all this be possible with the regular megasquirt, or will i need to do a megasquirt2?

Thanks for your help, and you gotta forgive Mike for his horrible spelling and grammer. LOL
