Default Measuring for a 28" or 34" radiator?

I've been searching, found a ton of info on the swap except the answer to how to tell which rad you have. I've seen some people say to measure only area between the end tanks, and then some say all the way to the end of the tanks. Which way is it?

Just the metal core in the middle. It doesnt help the 28" radiator measures about 34" outside to outside, leading to most of the confusion.

also an easy way to tell is the larger radiator usually has the e fans or the engine oil cooler and sometimes both
