I was told a long time ago when SAM was working on their Camaro that when they removed it they noticed a gain and that the gain was to believe that the ECU bumped the timing a couple degrees. It is in an old magazine that I have

Took mine out of 5 trucks and have never had an issue on any of them. Never a code or anything. I think that probably the only time it really helps is WOT. Anything you put in the path of the air, is going to cause restriction of some sort. How much, I don't know

I think of it like this, the benefit of less resrtiction is outweighed by the potential for problems. I'd rather remove it completely before de-screening. I still run the stock maf.

I descreened the original MAF in my truck several years ago and it didn't make one itty bitty bit of difference (good or bad). Since it didn't do a thing I wouldn't waste my time doing it again.
When I bought my L92 the MAF did not come with the screens so maybe some of the new trucks do come with the screens and some don't.
