Not alot of guys on here have the 5-speed but from what I've heard they can't handle alot of abuse.

I dont understand why everyone thinks the NV3500 is weak I had a Dodge Dakota with the NV3500 and my 4.8 also has the NV 3500 and they both took and take Daily Beatings. My truck has 115000miles on it and the trany still shifts great, but the Clutch could use some freshing up. Just from observing some of the post on this site it looks like everyone is having problems with their autojunks.

I don't recall anybody saying our trans. were bulletproof.Just simply letting the guy know what kind of luck other people were having with the 5 speeds.

Dude.....Autojunks?? the only reason you hear alot about autos breaking is because noone is putting any power through a 5 speed(in trucks now) mainly b/c they come with a V6 or 4.8 in front of them. ok Im only messing with you.. I agree th 4l60e isnt the best auto GM ever made. I would love to see a 5.3 and 5-speed combo just to see how it would run. ive been told the 5speeds are pretty tough but the clutch leaves something to be desired.

i agree that a well built auto tranny is better. especialy when your 1/4 times get around 13 not to mention a better hole shot but as i can best remember auto option new is 1200$ and put in a stall 600 to 800$ and programmer for shift points you have around 2000$ in your tranny.i think i could spend 2000$ in something else, like the motor

Built tranny might be a good thought when your warranty runs out and your tranny goes
Personally I would put a T-56 in when that happens.

Ditto. I run the NV3500 in my Jeep. I swapped it in in place of the factory ax-5 POS. It is 100% better and stronger than the crap I replaced, but it is in a lighter vehicle with not near the power. This tranny is a regular in the off-road community, and we've found it's limitations many times over.

IMO, get a back up plan going in case your 3500 takes a dump, and build the **** outa that 4.8!
