Default Magnaflow Both (packing) Blown Out Less Than a Year--Solutions??

Both 14" Magnaflows packing gone in less than a year old. They were almost to quiet when installed, sounded perfect after break in, now just way to loud. Is the only solution the raspy chambered type mufflers? I don't think I could stand the truck sounding like an old fox body Mustang lol. Would a pair of Vibrant resonators before the worn Magaflows be enough to bring the sound down as so my head doesn't hurt after driving an hour? I like my muffler guy (hotrodder) but I don't want to single handedly put him on easy street. What has worked for you guys that drive like a country boy running moonshine?

I put some 3" Vibrants on my Sierra. I have the big Magnaflow crossover 3" on factory dual pipe from manifolds, shop added dual pipes to bumper. According to Vibrant, you want as big a resonator and as long a length of pipe possible after the muffler. Mine literally are just at the bumper with turn downs, had to take off nice tips. They definitely took the high raspy notes out of the sound and it has a nicer mellow tone. I know my truck is a totally different style than yours but that's my experience. Your exhaust length might be too short to make much difference.

My Borla sounds a little deeper after 2 years but I haven’t blown the packing out of it and I drive a lot harder than most people do.

But it’s a SI SO muffler.

I vote for the Vibrants mine hasn't lost its packing yet and its directly after my Y pipe merge so it gets the most abuse possible.

on my z28 i added resonators and it did tame it down give it more of a controlled sounds while driving around like a an old man but still had volume when that throttle blade was wide open, on my 87 c10 when i got it 3" exhaust was installed it was way to loud for me (and i like sound) i took it off and installed 2.5" pipes sounded way better nicer deeper tone

On short drives the exhaust sounds amazing. You can easily tell it's not a stock truck with just a loud muffler. If there is anymore packing left in the Magnaflows it's gonna get even louder as it goes away... "if I were only 40 years younger"

So I decided on a pair of Vibrant 12" (1794) resonators. The only place these will fit is before the Magnaflows. I've read the best placement for resonators is somewhere under the cabin floorboards and that's where they'll go. Probably have to wait until Wednesday to get the truck to the muffler shop.

My muffler guy installed the Vibrants ($40) and it's somewhat better on the hwy at 2000 RPM. The J pipe for drone is the next thing I'm gonna try. The Vibrants quietened the noise a little. What really surprised me was how much deeper the overall tone. It sounds awesome going through the gears shifting at 6500. My muffler guy said "you must be getting to old for hotrods"

Warm Start with the Vibrants installed.

Mine used to drone when I had LT’s and single 4”, I even bought pipe and was gonna build a wave resonator to try to tame it down but I never did. Fast forward, switched from the blower setup to a turbo setup and still have the same 4” exhaust. Now I have ZERO drone, the turbo killed it all. So there is your solution, just add a turbo. Go tell the wife. Lol.

I don't know... asking her to add a turbo to my truck could be tricky, she's a darned good wrench though, I'll give her that. When she talks about "hot side - cold side" I think It's more menopausal, not boost.
