LS6 spring pressure
#22
Well I ordered a set of the new 918's last night for $160. Figured I got a good deal. If one was looking for stock replacement spring retainers and locks for really cheap where would he look? I went to the deal this morning and they want 3.50 a piece for the retainers and 2.15 a piece for the locks. Thats way too over priced.

Yes like they said a spring with less seat pressure will want a cam with less lift, you will get valve float at higher rpms...

Thanks mangled. I was just curious what happens when your springs are too soft. I've got new 918s on the way so I'm in the clear there. I'm having trouble finding some retainers and locks for cheap. It will be over $70 for stock stuff through the dealer.

Comp recomends you measure lifter preload with the new cam before purchasing pushrods. I'm glad I did. My cam needed .075" shorter pushrods from stock. I did not measure with the old cam and did no comparing of the base cirlce. Comp says .020" to .040" lifter preload with hydraulic

Just installed that exact same cam in my 02 silverado- Base circle was .055 smaller than stock. I used the factory retainers and locks with the Comp 918's with no problems. Had my heads milled .025 to compensate for the pushrod length difference and to bump compression. Will be replacing the pushrods soon with a set of hardened ones though- Heard a few horror stories about the stock ones bending with the 918's-

How do you like it so far? I'm curious on your setup so I can get an idea or two. I had only planned to have the heads milled .020 but I'll have to measure for pushrod length anyway I guess.
