Im planning on swapping my castech heads with some home ported 862 noncastech heads on my 04 5.3. I was going to get a 212/218 .600 112 cam. I seen people also put ls6 cams. The thing is doesn't the ls6 make all the power in the higher rpm range since they're 117 and 116 lsa? I have a crew cab and want some power in the low rpm also. It has 3.73 stock gears.

Should I just spends the extra couple hundred just for the 216/220 from tsp and some springs?

 

I think you'd be happier with a camshaft more designed for the truck application. The 212/218 size is perfect for the stock converter.

 

Absolutely love my 212/218 .550 in my Tahoe. Went to it from an LS9 cam and even with boost the 212 is better in every way I can think of

 

I put a 212 218 cam with milled 243s in my wifes lifted Tahoe that has a l33 in it.
Perfect cam for a stock converter in something heavier.

 

Yeah don't put the ls6 in it doesn't light up until over 3k at least.
