Default Gen 4 oil pickup tube o-ring

Friend of mine has an 07 Silverado. He had it in the shop and they told him it needs a new engine which I thought sounded fishy. I looked at it today. Only mil was a p0449, which isn’t cause for a new engine lol. It runs and sounds strong, no misfire or anything crazy. His only complaint was while driving oil pressure would drop, and the shop he took it to said it was blow by and he needs an engine. They replaced the oil pressure switch and he said after he left the shop it still had the oil pressure issue. The part number of oil pressure switch they used wasn’t a gm or ac delco part number. I know on the 99-06 there was the oil pickup tube oring issues, along with oil pressure switch issues, and cluster stepper motor issues. Did the gen 4s have the oring and/or oil pressure switch issues also? Thx

Does it drop after he goes high rpm? Like the bypass in pump is sticking? O ring issues I heard/read are when they start failing you get oil pressure random spikes- even while driving

Ya he said it’s usually highway speeds. I told him it’s prolly a faulty pressure sensor, pickup tube oring, or a combo of the both. And I also told him that if he wants to replace the oring just to go ahead and replace the pump with a melling pump. I just don’t know the differences from gen 3 to 4.

Is it equipped with AFM?

Sounds like a good time to do an AFM delete, remove the pressure relief valve at the same time.

If you swap out the pump, do a stock volume/high pressure pump.

Just solved my low oil pressure on my 07 nnbs 5.3 with a new pick up tube o ring.

It's worth the try, or just do a LY6 swap.

that I’m not sure of. Is there an rpo code for afm/dod or does it go by vin? Stock volume high pressure as in a melling 10295 I think the part number is?

this is just his bone stock dd. He has no desire for any performance upgrades (I kno I know &#128580. I’m just trying to keep him from getting ripped off from the shop he took it too. Well I’ll tell him we should replace the oil pump w/ new oring and put a gm/ac delco pressure sender in and go from there. If it does have dod he isn’t gonna wanna do a dod delete or anything like that. I saw last night that the dod lifters have issues, so for conversation sake, if that’s not the issue, what do you guys think about the obd2 plug ins than command the pcm to not activate the dod? Saw them in a google search last night.

Hard part is paying labor, I did it myself. Oil pan is going to be expensive to pay to have it done.

I rather pull the motor than drop the pan or change the oil pump with the motor still in.

I am going to get my dod tuned out after I swap my rear end to some better gears/lower mileage.

why did you drop the pan to swap oil pumps? aren't they set up the same way as gen 3 engines? if so the pan doesn't need to be dropped.

To get the retaining bolt off the pump feed tube it does have to be loosened from the block, or else you are fighting to get a wrench in there and risk dropping the bolt in the pan.
