Default Ls1 Vs 6.0 Liter

I am in the process of deciding which motor to swap into my 2wd RcSb, I have heard the arguments before about the swaps available for our trucks. My question is it seems the 6.0 liter is the swap preferred by a lot of people on the forum, I was wondering why is that because of price, power, easy to mod, stronger motor overall etc? My first overall plan was to swap in a LS1 with a procharger but now I am leaning towards a nitrous powered 6.0. I was just wondering if someone could steer me in the right direction. My overall goal is to be able to run about mid to high 12's with slicks!

Thanks Rick

You can generally find a 6.0liter LQ4 for less money than a LS1. Three advantages to me for the 6.0 are
1. price
2. strength(iron block)
3. more cubes
Of course the dissadvantage is weight. I think the LS1 is around 70-80 pounds lighter.

I am using a LS1 because its about 100lbs. lighter. The 6.0 has a 4 inch bore campared to the LS1 3.898. Which ever one you pick you will not be dissapointed in because both are great motors. It would not be hard to get a NA 5.7 or 6.0 to run in the high 12's. Add alittle juice or a coulpe pounds boost and your set. Good luck. Yellow

the new SSR has the aluminum 6.0 in it......I'd wait until that one is more commonly available and go with that over both others

Ive always heard that iron is preferred to aluminum in boosted apps. Not that everyone is going to boost it, but Id prefer the stronger block. 100lbs in my heavy *** truck is negligable.

Here's what i would do with your light SBRC. 5.7 shortblock,LS6 heads, radix or turbo.

there is no substitue for cubic inches my friend. the extra torque is a big plus with these heavy trucks.

It is only 65 lbs difference as far as GM says. 6.0 is cheaper, and better for boost if you get the LQ4 instead of the LQ9, but i depends on what you are going to do with it. Ther are good points to both motors.
