The 05 Efan route can be pricey, but it's well worth it IMO. If you go with the 05's, you'll have to upgrade to a 34" radiator, as the pre 05 non-HD trucks have a 28" radiator. Here's a link to creederado's efan write up, and a quick list of prices that I paid and that I can think of: https://www.performancetrucks.net/fo...+official+2005

*05 Efans, complete new factory take-offs from G&R Auto Parts: $220 shipped
*New 34" radiator from the Radiator Barn.com: $265ish shipped
*New plug and play harness from Nelson Performance: $100 shipped
*Retune PCM to accomodate Efans: $0 to $500, depending on who you go with, if you have tuning software, or if you already have a custom tune with free lifetime updates, or if you get a full custom tune including efan operation (cost me $50 since I already have a PCMforLess tune and updates are $50)

Optional:
*145amp alternator (many have done the efans with the factory 105amp alternator w/o any problems): $100 shipped from G&R Auto Parts
*Longer engine belt for 145amp alt (GM PN 12576451 ): $30ish
*160* thermostat (I did this and had the fans programmed to come on at 180* and off at 173*, but you can use the factory stat and have the fans set to a higher temp): $60ish shipped from SLP
*New coolant if necessary

I think that about covers it

$124 for the LS1 fans
$90 for the harness
need a tune to turn the fan setting on.
figure like $10 extra for hardware and steel flatbar peices to use as mounting brackets.

i didnt buy an alternator or anything. just that stuff above. i have a tow package so i already have a 34" radiator. happy hunting!

dont know if this is directly related, but my friend put in a fan shroud switch and it just overrides the pcm. its just a switch and it turns both fans on either low, medium, or high.

I dont want to deal with that crap everytime i turn my truck on and i already had a nelson tune so it worked out perfectly. Wait4me tune is cheap so if you dont wanna deal with it then just do get go that route.

hey, hook up a relay to provide a ground as the pcm would. Itll turn on whenever the truck is running. This is the route I went for now, I need to get it retuned though so they will work right. I can show you this weekend.

doesn't the 145 amp alternator use a wider belt? Or can you use the normal one? when I bought belts for my truck it listed belts for both alternators

Same width, just longer...glad you mentioned that, I neglected to add it to the shopping list I made in post #24. The link to creed's write up should have the belt part number
