I'm currently running a zo6 ls6 cam in my truck. I downgraded from a 224/224 on 112 lsa. As far as gas mileage is concerned, I only gained .5 mpg back when I took out the 224.

Moral of the story, is that aside from no longer having idle issues, I saw no positive effects downgrading cams, and only lost performance.

You could find a used cam in the classifieds and a set of LS6 springs for under $250 and be much much happier. Just my .02

I did the LS1 in my truck and am not happy with it. Mine was also free and I am a gm tech, so it did not take long to swap as I do it very often. I would still say no to do it and go for other mods first. Tune would be number 1 in my book!!

Long story-short, I installed the LS1 cam and at the same time installed the heads w/ LS1 valves along w/ 36lb injectors, I was very disappointed with the performance, I then bought a DST tuner and after the tuning it all came around and the truck ran like a bat out of hell, I have tuned some of my friends trucks from stock and made a Huge impact on performance, these motors are detuned so a normal person can drive them, (Timing & fuel) If I had it all over to do again I would throw a tune in it first and go from there..

Then I guess my question is, why would you put a cam in but not a converter?

Also, why would you think it would run like ****? I daily drive a 3600 converter in a lifted truck and have zero issues. If you ran a tt3000, you wouldn't even remember it was there most of the time.

You can swap a converter or a cam in about the same amount of time.

Do what you will man. It doesn't sound like you're looking for advice, it sounds like you've already made up your mind. Do what you will, but unless you already have the tools and have done at least a handful of cam swaps, I wouldn't bother with an ls1 cam.

The best thing to do as far as performance, Is get it tuned, And then see if you want more, Then go from there..
