Default LS1/6 Swap

So I've been debating on what direction to head with my truck and it seems that instead of spending thousands on the beast to upwards of 325hp on bolts on's and other mods, I'd just spend less in doing an engine swap. I've spent the last hour reading engine swap threads and from what I've read.......its a DIRECT longblock swap..........

I would be using the truck intake manifold, heads, and all assc.! Talked to a few people and they said all I would need is a tune to get it running correctly. I know the heads are going to be a little restrictive but I can always purchase some stock assembled ls1/ls6 heads later on.

Next question, what kind of difference am I going to feel? I have a dinky 4.8 right now, so is it going to be like WOAH, whole new truck!? or Damn its about time I had some sort of pick up in this thing...?

Thoughts and opinions are appreciated!

P.S. I do not want to do a 6.0 swap due to the tranny swap needed with it.

Use the heads on your truck they will raise the C.R. You can get larger valves in them to flow more air. Get a cam while your at it. You can make 350-360rwhp easy.

The differnce is night and day. It is very worth it I know first hand. I went from a 4.8 to a LS1 about 6 months ago and love it. The biggest thing IMO is the Tq picked ups ince the 4.8s' have none. The swap is like taking out the 4.8 and putting it right back in.

The LS1/6 would be a great engine to use and it should feel like a new truck after you get it tuned. Also a 6.0 swap doesn't require you to change transmissions.

None of them require a tranny change.

How much CR would one end up with 5.3 heads on 5.7 LS1.

I will be buying a 5.3 2000 4x4 Stepside SB with high miles, close to 200K, on it. I was planning to swap a 6.0 engine in but if a 5.7 LS1 will fit with using acc from 5.3 engine it will be even better for the lesser weight of the aluminum LS1 block. Are the engine mounts the same.

Will it need a an LS1 tune or it will run on the 5.3 tune. Is the PCM any different between LSx trucks and LS1 engines.

Also will the truck transmission bolt directly to the 5.7 LS1 engine.

When they say its a "direct swap" it's a "DIRECT" swap......Meaning the tranny will bolt right up, the AC will bolt right up.......This is assuming you are going to be using the truck intake, the truck heads, etc....I would assume you would have to get a 5.3 truck tune since you will be using the 5.3 truck PCM. Like a guy said earlier, he did a swap and the truck ran without a tune, but we all know you would see a great improvement with a tune.
