LQ9 mild build advice
Hi guys I知 looking to wake my truck up a bit.
its a
2006 gm Sierra vortec max
hp tuners (power enrich enable, torque management delete)
has a 2002 4l80e from a 1500hd.
truck is basically stock otherwise.
im pretty set on doing an n/a build. Have about $3000 to spend in hard parts .
priority maintains being able to tow my 8000lb travel trailer with the same performance or better than stock and hoping to make 375 or so at the tire.
212/218 or 216/220 tsp low lift truck cam
tsp prc stage 1 heads (mill/hg to 10.5:1)
long tubes, true dual speed engineering
converter? Or keep factory 80e ..
-worthwhile to change to 799/246 heads or leave 317s? Nbs intake manifuold at same time? (Have access to a 2010 5.3 truck I can rob the top end from)
Any advice from similar builds would be great! Thanks kindly!!

Either camshaft would work and either would work with the stock stall. So towing performance will still be good.
I'd mill the stock 317 heads to save money because they already flow great.
If the truck is non flex fuel you will need larger injectors because the factory 25lb/hr won't flow enough.

IMHO any 6.0 making 375 to the tire that needs to tow a significant amount of weight needs a blower or larger displacement engine. To make 375 wheel you will sacrifice drivability and towing won’t be any fun.
Either lower wheel hp expectations or spend more $$ to make the power.
Someone prove me wrong with a dyno sheet, and proof of towing on an N/A 6.0.

i put down 371/416 on my old setup on a dynocom with my lq4, 218/224 howards cam, nnbs intake mani ported, headers, 4.10 gears, 799 CNC heads milled .030
my current setup is in my sig upgraded to a btr stage 4 truck cam added 4.30 gears installed a ported lsxrt manifold tuned by james karger, just a street tune no dyno numbers and it has towed my dads big tex 12' dump trailer with 40 squares of shingles for what its worth.. it can be done. and im on the stock stall stock trans.
this was with the old setup 218/224 howards cam

no brother im still on the stock stall stock trans its crazy because i have beat up on other vehicles and a lot of dyno pulls and the trans is running good still after 2 years of being behind the LQ4. i do plan to run at least a circle D 3000 stall and have the trans rebuilt, with the addition of the 4.30 gears and the truetrac i get zero traction from a digs, i spin a lot from 20s and 30 rolls. when i do 40 rolls it will chirp the tires a little. im running some cragar soft 8 wheels 17x9 with a good year 275/60r17 tire. they are worthless lol
my dad has a 07 classic 2500HD and used my truck to tow the trailer while his 4L80E was being rebuilt and told me that my truck pulled the trailer way better than his lol maybe because its a lighter truck and the gears but he said it didnt struggle at all.

This is exactly what I wanted to hear, thanks a bunch!
I think I致e decided on going to the stage 2 212/218 112lsa cam but the only thing I知 hung up on is whether to run my 317 heads or go to the 243/799. I may keep the stock exhaust manifolds and delete the cats. Truck already has the dual exhaust from manifolds back.
what would you recommend for heads/ manifold option if my priority is low end torque? I知 leaning towards some cnc 243痴 and factory truck manifolds but I壇 like to hear the general consensus. I think I値l run my 78mm throttle body on the tbss/nnbs also for the low end torque idea also
