Default LQ4 or LQ9 block id????

I bought a 6.0L motor and harness today for really cheap. how do I know if it is a Lq4 or LQ9? I heard something about the letter N being LQ9 and U being LQ4 in the vin??? is that right? where on the motor or computer would the VIN be? is it a normal 16 digit number? Thanks for any help!

I doubt that the motor has a VIN, but if you happen to have the VIN on the PCM, if the 8th digit is an N, then its an LQ9. If its a U, then its a LQ4.

Whats the first 10 digits of the VIN, I'll tell you.

317 heads came on my SS's LQ9. The 317s come on both motors.

Thats 14 digits, with the N in the 13th spot - Not a VIN.

Plug the PCM in to your truck, and use a OBD2 code reader to get the VIN. Autotap, EFI Live, Predator, etc...
