LQ4 or LQ9 block id????
I bought a 6.0L motor and harness today for really cheap. how do I know if it is a Lq4 or LQ9? I heard something about the letter N being LQ9 and U being LQ4 in the vin??? is that right? where on the motor or computer would the VIN be? is it a normal 16 digit number? Thanks for any help!

I doubt that the motor has a VIN, but if you happen to have the VIN on the PCM, if the 8th digit is an N, then its an LQ9. If its a U, then its a LQ4.

sweet it has a N in that spot on the PCM!!! So what did this motor come out of? The heads are #317, someone else said told me tonight that the 317 heads were LQ4 heads? Any idea about that?
Thanks again! |
Whats the first 10 digits of the VIN, I'll tell you.
317 heads came on my SS's LQ9. The 317s come on both motors. |
if I have the right number the first 10 letters are:
86yctj9223 Is that right? |

I guess I can't count because it has a N in the 13th spot on that number?
the full number is 86yctj922337n4ro maybe that is not the vin? |

any idea how I can figure out what this thing is if there is no VIN on it anywhere?

Plug the PCM in to your truck, and use a OBD2 code reader to get the VIN. Autotap, EFI Live, Predator, etc...
