Default LQ4 or LQ9

I am planning on building a stroked 408ci motor, and I was just wondering which block would be better to start with?? Or does it even matter??

If were going to rebuild the motor w/ a new rotating assembly(pistons, rods & crank), I would start w/ a LQ4. The LQ9 is desireable for the stock pistons which increases compression over the LQ4.

If you're doing a stroker setup, all you'll be re-using is the block and heads, which are the same for the LQ4 and LQ9.

I thought the LQ9 had aluminum heads and the LQ4 did not...

Only pre-2001 heads were not aluminum.

The "high output" comes from higher compression via flat top pistons, tuning, and I believe a different cam. Either way, none of these will be re-used in a stroker application.
