Default low fuel light/gas guage problems

this problem is on my 1999 silverado.

the problem has been like this for a long time. it seems when i first start the truck the light comes on, the guage drops to empty no matter how much gas i have in the tank, then when i get going down the highway it goes off and the guage returns to an accurate reading.

anyone else have this problem?

Actually you can get a sending unit off ebay for cheap (like $40). And then just drop the gas tank pull out the intank pump basket and replace the sending unit. Shouldn't take more than a couple hours.

I know it's a no brainer but some people forget to do this with minimal gas in the tank.
