what makes the biggest difference is the big gear space between 1-2 and just over all. The 6 spds are really a great match to these motors power curve.. just count on it shifting a ton

bore out a 5.3 to a 5.7. Run ls1 pistons and heads with a compcams 206 212 112 cam and it will make just as much lowend torque as the mythical small black chevys. Wouldnt be that expensive to do either.

Bingo! Thats why the duration of this 'small' cam profile works, because of the ports. An iron headed LT1 had 170cc ports and a good deal less duration and lift. now with fewer cubes AND larger ports the slack is taken up at the cam level. Punching it out to 5.7 is the next and more expensive step. Killer thing would be a 6.0, the Comp XR259 Cam with 5.3 heads........
