Question lots of questions

I am trying to find a cam for my truck (listed below). I want something that is going to give me good mid and top end power without being doggie on the low. Am I going to need to get a converter? What is a converter going to do to everyday driving? Will probably change rockers and lifters if it gives even further gains. I am going to get a custom tune done after I get these installed as I assume you would need to do that? Any info is appreciated.

By the way, I own a 02 chevy avalanche with the 5.3. I have a Volant CAI, Shorties, Catback exhuast, Taylor Thundervolts, and Iridiums.

PM NakedAV. He has a 5.3 avalanche and has done much work to it, including a cam.
