Default Looks Like a Serious Problem..is it???

Just took the valve covers off our 04 5.3 with 100k miles. Was surprised with with I saw. It literally looks like snot underneath the valve covers. But is not on the springs, pushrods, etc.

What in the world could be the problem? Is it a blown headgasket? Is this normal? There also was no water in the oil which really confused me.

Thanks!

Do you live in an area where the temps have already gotten colder? I know that it looks nasty, but it may be normal condensation that has not burned off due to the oil not getting up to temps high enough to burn it off. I get yoo-hoo like that in my catch can every fall and winter...

What kind of oil were you running and at what intervals?

Supadaddy, I've never seen quakerstate do that to the inside of an engine. Ever
