Looking for info from the old school SBC guys.

well my trucks been running okay since i did the cam and long tubes a while back.. I've been piecing together a 6.0 for a long time. I got to thinking that im gonna put it on hold for a while, unless the 4.8 blows

My dad and I have a 69 C10 that been in the family he was a teenager.
We're planning on doing disk brakes, relocating the gas tank to the rear, and a few other suspension mods.. nothing to drastic, just a cruzer.
Truck has a 250 I6 w/ 3 speed manual tranny.
Iv started looking for 88-95 1500 w/ 350_nv3500 combo. that i can pull out together (help save frmo having to spend on all the lil lines and fittings).
Reason i chose 88+ was for the roller and 4 bolt main.
im going ta ahve the motor completely overhauled and bored .03" over.
most likely do vortec (96-99 chevy) heads slightly worked, intake and carb setup.
Whats kind of cams do you all have experience running in roller SBC's.
This is going to be a weekend driver, we want something with a noticeable idle and low end, this thing will probably never see above 5500rpms.
preferably nothing custom grind, something i can pick up off the shelf .
Most likely will keep the 1.5 rockers, but springs will be changed for sure.
Intake and carb set-up will be edelbrock rpm air-gap, and around 700-750cfm.
In short:
what set-ups have you'll used and liked?
what cams do you like for a roller SBC?
NO LS OR BBC SUGGESTIONS. weekends driver, will never see a race track.
hell i'll be surprised if we even add a tachometer to it haha.

i have a ZZ4 cam in my 97 355, its a good low end and mid range cam, idle has a little lope to it, but will have more with a carb... heres a video of my buddys truck,

Comp has the XR264HR 264/269 212/218 .488/.495 112°, it has a 1200 to 5200rpm power band. If you want something with a slightly more noticeable idle they also have the XR264HR 264/270 212/218 .487/.495 110° that also has a 1200 to 5200rpm power band. Of course there is always the GM LT4 Hot Cam 218/228 .492/.492 w/1.5 rockers .525/.525 w/1.6 rockers on a 112, but if your not looking to spin it any higher than what you were saying, one of the Comp 264's should fill the bill well. Any of the choices will require a corresponding match of valve-springs and you can have the valve-guides machined for the needed clearance and positive valve seals before bolting them on your new motor. You could also use Comp 915 bee-hives as drop in replacement and with the required hybrid retainer will give you the needed clearance required, but due to already having the heads off and mostly likely needing them serviced anyway, you shouldn’t have to put much effort into everything and just run matching components as recommended by the cam manufacturer.
To get your 350/NV3500 combo, you will need to look for a ’93 or newer donor truck.
88-90= HM290 Getrag
91-92= HLM60
93+= NV3500

I'd say the absolute max size cam you'd want would be the LT4 HOT cam. I have that cam in my '66 truck (same chassis as your '69 by the way..) and it pulls well past 5500 rpm. In fact, with a larger carb, it'd pull past 6000 rpm I think. It's got a great torque curve, but it definitely doesn't wanna peak out at 5500 rpm.
350 ZZR long block, 670 cfm Holly Street Avenger, Edelbrock Air-Gap intake, slightly massaged L98 aluminum heads, LT4 HOT cam with 1.6 roller rockers, 1-5/8" Hooker LT's. Needs a larger carb on it, but that's in the future sometime.

after doing some more reading i think i might do a 600-650cfm carb, since im not gonna pull it past 5500..
keep the cam choices coming guys..

in my 86 c10 rcsb 2wd I bought a new ZZ4 w/3.73 gears and a 650 holley it ran great and run 14.50 then I got a hot cam-fast burn heads and a team-G intake 750 holley and 3500 stall w/4.10's wow what a difference 12.70's @107 w/1.71 60' 3960 w/driver rpm pulled hard to 6500. and 5 years later my son-in-law is still beating the crap out of it.hope this helps

The GM hot cam as said would be ideal for you.
Also you'll need to run an electric fuel pump, i dont think thehot cam has a mechanical fuel pump lobe??
The vortec 350's are great motors, should make a nice powerplant for your old school cruiser.
