Default lookin at a 00' 6.0 , Opinions Please

I have my 5.3 tore down to the short block, it has 182,000 on it, Short block looks fine, but i figured only a few more bolts and i can pull it.

So i called a local salvage yard and found a 2000 6.0 out of a 2500 truck with72,000 miles.

Is this a good engine to get ? Ive heard of early 6.0's with cast iron heads and dont want them.

Needs to bolt up to my 4L60E also .Heard about long cranks only bolting up to 80E's ????

Want to put my new cam/springs/pushrods / timing chain /oil pump to the new motor.

Just would like your guys advice. I feel with the high miles on the 5.3 im borrowing time with performance mods.

Want to do a front mount down the road.

Thanks!

ALSO ordered a set of LS7 lifters, should i put them in the 6.0 if i get it or send them back??

If it's an early 00, it will most likely have iron heads, and the longer crank snout. Do not buy it without inspecting it for those two things first.

If it's got aluminum heads and the price is right, then get it and put your new lifters and valvetrain in there.

IMO I would get the 00 6.0 swap some aluminum heads on and run a 4L80. Best setup on a budget I think. No worries of blowin the trans and the motors gonna take more abuse than you will probably find out.

Thanks for the advice guys.

This morning i found an 03 LQ4 with 45,000 miles complete for 1100$. Engine is very clean outside and under the valve covers.

This is going in as soon as i swap the goodies over from the 5.3

Im excited to have a 6.0, should run nice!
