It is easier to "fit" shorties, but on the GMT 800/900 trucks LT's are the only way to go in order to see gains that justify the cost.

LT's on the GMT 400's, esp the 96-99 305/350 Vortec trucks allow you to get rid of the crap stock 1 7/8" headpipes.

peace

Lts are superior to shorties due to their tuned length and how they scavenge. Are u serious blues? Lmao.

Shorty headers are great if you are:

ON a tight budget and have to keep the factory downpipes because you can't afford the cost of a full longtube system-
Don't care much about top end horsepower and want to just improve the low-end and midrange characteristics of the engine-
Trying to flip them backwards to mount turbo's onto the engine-
Trying to just impress people who know nothing about cars at car shows and to add room to put extra dynamat, flashing lights or mirrors or whatever kids do these days.

Long tube headers are great if you are:

Trying to improve the midrange and topend characteristics of the engine-
Want to maximize the cylinder scavenging effect via the correct sized collector/merger-
Building a LS anything and have plenty of room for LT headers (im not picking on modular guys I swear! )

As for best headers- American Racing Headers, hands down. Depending on what your building, spend the little extra to get the 1 7/8 primary's instead of the 1 3/4's. They are 304 stainless, made in America by Americans and Nick and Louie put tons of hours of R&D for the best power gains, flow and easy fitment. You get what you pay for!~
