As far as building a motor on the side and keeping it a 5.3L is because I really dot want to put a 6.0 in there because I'm not looking to go crazy with HP. Just a little extra, seeing as its all pretty much stock parts for the L33 I figured the gas mileage wouldn't be terrible. This is my DD and I'm tryin to keep it mild not wild.

Basically if I'm gunna build a motor on the side and a trans as well then just swap everything out and maybe use my old power train in another project down the road haha maybe put it in an old mustang to **** off some ford guys lol.
All 4.8/5.3L Use the 3.780 Bore Or 96 MM Bore.

A stock LS1 has a 3.898 Or 99 MM Bore.

You could bore the block the .118 over to make it an LS1 If the Walls are thick enough. But you limit your self if you Blow it up.

The LR4 4.8L and L33 5.3L Use the same flat piston. Since the L33 came out in 2005 it was only available with the floating pins and the LS2 style rods.

The standard 5.3L LM7 and L59 use a -8cc dish piston.

The 4.8/5.3L - 706 and 862 heads have a 1.89 intake 1.55 Exhaust with a 61 CC combustion chamber
Flows 200CFM on the intake 70CFM on the exhaust

The LS1/LS2/L33 - 243 and 799 heads use a 2.0 intake 1.55 Exhaust with a 64 cc combustion chamber. Flows 210CFM on the intake 75CFM on the exhaust. The castings for these 3 engines are the same but depending on the application the valves could be either be solid or sodium filled. The valve spring's are also different between the applications as well.

So you gain 10 CFM on the intake side and 5CFM on the Exhaust.

The cam may be slightly larger in the L33 vs a regular 5.3L but the Difference is negligible. There only about .010 Taller in lift and that could just be how it was ground.

You could either build an Iron version of the L33 or just do a rebuild and mill the factory 4.8/5.3L heads to bump the compression ratio up to similar specs.
It all depends on the parts you have available and what your looking to spend.

Depending on what you want out of your combo would dictate the cam choice.

Hope that helps some

I feel like getting an ls1 would be a lot more money then I'm looking to spend. Plus at tht point I think a 6.0 would probably be more cost efficient and effective which is what I'm trying to stay away from. I'm just looking to freshen up an maybe get a little more. I really appreciate all the good advice.
