i did pull the plugs, and it still wouldnt turn over, thought maybe the starter was dead, pulled it, checked out fine, put a socket on the crank, it would turn backwards almost a full revolution, then lock down. then you can turn it forwards almost a full revolution, and it locks down again, both times with a very audible clunk sound from the oil pan area...

Thanks to all yall. i still havent decided on whether to fix it fast and cool, or just fix it fixed and sell it... for a diesel... at any rate, thanks again
