Default K&N INTAKE QUESTION

okay last friday I installed a GenII k&n fipk. While doing the install I went ahead and removed the plate under the old filter box so that it can get fresh air from the ground. Now that it is raining today I checked the filter and it was damp. I assume I am not the only one that has removed the plate and I was curious if the filter gets dirtier faster and if there are any measureable gains to having the plate off.

I do like the k&n kit and the sound alone was worth the money!!!

I've had it on two trucks and removed the plates both times and never had a problem. Not sure if there'd be any noticeable gains by removing the plate because technically the filter is still around the engine where all the heat is and not below it to take full advantage of the fresh air.

I kept the plate on but I was still getting a lot of bugs till I got the filter sock. Now I don't have to clean it nearly as often.
