k&n fipk installed...write-up

bought for 218...autozone lists for 230...schucks beats competitors by 5%...i got it at schucks
installation was smooth…a wrong hose clamp included in the box so i had to get the right size. probable took around an hour to do the job. would take 20 minutes now that i figured it out. on the street, it is much louder, with the 2000-2500 rpm drone intensified greatly almost to the point of being annoying. seat of the pants i do feel a difference. tires will spin on a full throttle non-brakestall run from 0 to about 30. it is worth it in my opinion. however if you cannot put up with the drone between 2000-2500 rpm, then this is not for you. also if you go mudding alot, the filter is exponed to the mud that gets under the hood, so if you dont wnat to clean and oil the filter every time you go mudding, then, again…not for you. i go mudding every once in a while, and i discovered that my airbox had about 2 cups of mud incide it when i pulled it off…so maybe an open element filter is better after all…for clearing off all the mud instead of leaving it in the airbox. this was installed on an otherwise stock truck…hope this helped all that are looking into an intake…

i have stock exhaust and i understand the added volume...but there is a unique resonance and drone at 2000-2500 rpm that does not make itself present at any other rpm...also the 0-30 tires spin thing...i cant duplicate it so must have been wet tires or something

I put one on my dads 05 silverado 5.3. I used the 99 to 04 -4.8 / 5.3 kit. You will have to bend the heat shield, and drill a new hole in the bottom right side so you can bolt it down. Don't use the top right mounting bolt. The radiator will trap it in.The 05 have the 34 in radiator that interferes with the heat shield.
This was in January, I don't know if K&N have come out with the 05 model now or not. They did not have an 05 kit in January.

I just put in an AEM brute force and it has a crazy noise of sucking in air at WOT. I hear a little bit of drone cruisin at higher speeds but it isnt to bad. When i first put it in my PCM didnt seems to recognize it and my truck was running a little rough but after about 50 miles it is all better and I am noticed some pretty positive gain with acceleration and even gas mileage. I could barely get 13mpgs normal driving in my SSS but I'm at 14.2 now and I have been laying into it pretty good the past few days/nights. I believe the K&N is basically the same set-up

I bolted an FIPK in my truck last week, and also got a hose clamp that did not fit. The heat shield did not fit either, at least not until the cut off wheel came out.
It was really kind of a pain in the ***. I ended up unbolting the coolant resivoir and moved it out of the way which made things alot easier. The top mount wouldnt bolt up, and had to redo the bottom. K&N needs to do a little redesign IMO! But on that note it sounds awesome and feels good too.
