G80 is the GM RPO code for the locking rear differential...not sure what GV80 is though.

Is this something that is stock on trucks or has to be installed after. How can you tell if your truck has it?

Look in the glove box of your truck and there is a sticker in there with all the RPO codes. If you see G80 you have the limited slip if not you have an open differential!

it's not limited slip, it's full locker. but it's crap. go to eaton's web site, and check it out, they have a video and everything showing how it work. (eaton supplied differentials to GM) it's meant to lock, only to 20 mph, in a traction loss situation which is why this option is required for traction control equipped vehicles. if you're gonna build any power, change it out for an e-locker or a limited slip unit.

People call it "factory limited slip" and they break easily when you start to add alot of power. If you dont have one or if you do and plan on some decent HP get an Eaton they arent much at all!

It is actually both. It has a clutch pack on one side that allows it to function as a limited slip when it isnt locked. The G stands either for garbage or grenade- depending on how bad it breaks or explodes. For cost and durabiliyt I would reccomend a aftermarket Eaton limited slip. Money no option, the electronic lockers are cool, but expensive. You can get an electronic locker from Eaton, Auburn or Detroit locker.

I like those e-lockers too. I'd rather have that than driving around with all the clunking from a detroit or Auburn standard locker. I'd rather spool it than hear that.
