Iridium question
Does anyone have any comments on the AC Delco Iridium plugs? p/n 41-985 I believe the GM part number is 12571164. I want a set of Iridiums for my truck but cannont get the Denso or TR55ix here locally and really don't care to spend $30 in shipping to get them here. When I called the local dealer to see if they had them I had them check to see which plugs my truck currently has. There computer system does not show a Platinum plug for my truck. I thought all the new trucks came with the Platinums??? What am I missing here? Another question, what am I supposed to be gapped at? I was pretty sure everyone says .050 but the ACDelco website and dealer both said "Do not deviate from preset gap .040"
I just want to make sure that I am not pulling Iridium plugs from my truck and spending $7.85 each to replace them with the same thing.
Thanks for the help.
Kevin

Yeah, I found 4 at the Napa dealer but that won't quite cover me I just bought the AC Delco's. Guess when I pull the original plugs I will see what GM is putting in there stock. Still not sure why they are saying leave them gapped at .040

GM is going with iridiums now. I think late 03 they changed. If you go to the dealer for a set of plugs they will be the only thing listed. They say AC delco but are NGK iridiums. I think the gap for stock is still 65. I gapped mine a bit tighter since I am running boost. I like them a lot, best plug I have used.

One thing for everyone running a boosted application, iwith the iridium or platinum plugs ids they are self cleaning, the electrode w/ the platinu8m or iridium gets to extremely high temps and burns of the carbon deposits thats why they last so long. the problem is this hot spot is a big source of hotspot detonation on booset applications thats why the standard NGK's are preferred for s/c, turbo applications. I've got tr-6s in my burban and it allowed me more timing.
