Default Intake

Has anyone moved there MAF right up to the throttle body and put a cone filter right after that? I was just wondering if that setup would work. I have all that room with the electric fans now, and was wanting to get rid of that ugly stock tube. If anyone has pics that would be awesome.

I would move the maf for bettle throttle response but you want to move the filter to a place where it can suck in cold air. If you put it there it will be right behind the radiator and the air will be heated up by it. If you could bridge the radiator like the c5's and put it right there than you would be set but if not just use the stock air box and some pvc from homedepot to move your maf

doing so would likely lose some throttle response over a properly built intake ducting as well as overall hp.

well, an LS1 intake would be an improvement, but that's not what i meant with the intake ducting. the intake ducting between the throttle body and the maf if built right can have a good effect on the velocity of the air going into the throttle body which effects the throttle response. locating the air filter to right behind the radiator is going to do nothing but take in hot air and that is just a good way to lose power.

In regards to the LS1 intake, one of the magazines just did a comparison of the LS1, FAST, and the truck intake...The truck intake was right there with the FAST intake.
Both the FAST and Truck intake beat the LS1..Sorry, but I don't remember if this was in CarCraft, Hotrod, of Popular Hot Rodding..Was only a month or so ago..

unfortunatly, the article needs to be read a little more closely. the truck intake didn't do as well as the graph shows. the graph was incorrect and the actuall numbers that were posted show the real results. bigtex pointed that out to me. the newer LS1 intake far exceeded the output of the older version, but either should make more power than the truck manifold.
