Installing Longtubes

cool thanks, glad to hear the stock o2s would work, i dont like extending them and new ones are $$$. i didnt have to touch the steering shaft in my car, is it really in the way for a 2wd truck?

I know on my truck which is 4wd that the passenger side header was a bit tighter than the driver side. I had to remove the plugs on that side in order to have any hope of getting the header in.

i didn't know at all about the p2a01 and 04 codes lol. i had all of em disabled except that one.
I see them now when I scroll down the list of DTC's in hptuners


the headers in a 2wd are fine with the steering shaft in my setup. the only place the headers almost touch is the frame rail on the passenger side, I have like 3/16" clearance.

If you do remove the steering shaft, don't spin the steering wheel past 1/2 turn or you will ruin the air bag clocking switch thingy....replacement is over $150.00 !!!

iono if that's true. just unbolting the steering shaft and turning won't affect the air bag switch. the shaft will just act like you're "turning" the truck, but in real time the front wheels aren't turning at all.

I thought there was a pin you had to slide into place on the steering column when you removed the shaft? I remember thats why I didnt remove mine. Its in the tech manual.

I had to change the bolt on my steering shaft because I was sent 4 wheel drive headers for a 2 wheel drive application.

On the passenger side I might be able to slide a piece of paoper thru the space between the header and the frame On the drivers side the bolt stops dead against the header. So I ahd to go the the hardware shop and change the bolt to a shorter one. Oh and yes this was all found out at 4:45PM on a FRIDAY. It is fine now except for the codes that NELSONS PERFROMANCE will fix. The issue is I completely removed/unplugged the rear 02's and received the latests codes again. Other than that I love the Staneless Works Headers.

At least on the 02' model it was true...take the word of an idiot who just could NOT stop spinning the steering wheel, and now has an air bag light on permanently

I'm tryin to find that in the tech manual right now. can't find anything so far.

anyways, when you install the longtubes please use an accuseal type clamp instead of the oldschool exhaust clamps. the walker and dynomax stainless clamps are badass since they use 2 bolts to tighten the stainless band, 8 bux is worth it. I didn't use the copper RTV, dont think it's really worth the effort unless you can easily put it on, it was dark outside when I was finishing up my install, I couldn't see worth a crap and wanted to get it all done and installed. everything works perfrect and I have no leaks
