I have a 99 Silverado and I was trying to install my ls1 e-fans I had just got in and I can't get the stock fan off, on the water pump pulley there are 4 bolts there and its very hard to try and get a wrench in there to try and break loose that bolt....there is the other problem can't get that SOB loose without turning the pulley, I have great directions and everything but want to know what to do....thanks.

Put a little WD-40 on the fan nut,and hit the pipe wrench with a rubber mallet.Keep the fan belt on when taking the fan nut off.

You wanna get a pipe wrench on that nut and a good size cheater bar then pound on that cheater bar to the PASSANGER side of the truck. That fan clutch should come right off.
Also keep that fan belt on there and the fan shroud is in two pieces, so just take the top off for more room to work. I noticed that the second time I installed them fans.
Oh yeah, I also agree with some penetrant. I've had better luck with PB over the years but WD also works okay.
Good luck

Another trick is to get someone to use a socket wrench to hold another pulley at the top of the engine still, so the belt wont slip. I am pretty sure my friend held my alternator pulley still, while I used a big cheater bar, and it came loose without any slippage. Good luck!

I have tried all of those and it still doesn't want to budge, thebiggest problem is how awkward it is with those 4 bolts on the water pump pulley, we even went and put a wrench on one of those bolts propped it against something so it wouldn't move but the bolt and pulley both turned I am gonna hit it with some more penetrating oil tonight and try again tomorrow, thanks for the replies.

Get an 18" monkey wrench and a rubber mallet. If the rubber mallet won't work, get a bigger hammer, a metal one will work kinda like an impact wrench.
You can also make a tool that has some pins on it to stick it in the holes on the front of the pulley to hold it still. I didn't have a problem with it turning the whole belt, but it slipping inside the belt.

You need some heat to loosen the thread lock. I took one of those handheld torches and heated up the nut then put Crescent wrench on the nut and hit it with a rubber mallet and about 3 hits later it was loose.

don't know about the heat thing, but i guess I won't need the fan anymore will I?? I was just going to do the strap wrench thing, i just didn't wanna take the belt off, but it looks like that is the easiest thing to do. Thanks for all the help, and I will check back in and tell yall how they work, thanks again...later.
