Injector swapping questions
#1
For those who have swapped out their stock injectors for another set that are plug and play, how long did it take you, how hard was it to do, and what tools did you need?
I am planning an injector upgrade, but I don't want to change them out at home, and then drive 2 + hours to my tuner to get retuned. I'd like to know if I can swap them out in his parking lot, of if that is too much trouble.
Thanks.

I think that should be easy enough. It's not real tough, I think I took about an hour to do it. Could be done faster if you hurry. Just a couple of basic hand tools needed unless you want to take the fuel rail off then you would need the special tool to disconnect the fuel line, but it isn't necessary to disconnect the fuel line.

you'd need to tell the pcm the inj rate. I guess it'd be "okay" for a ride to your tuner if it ran, it would be dog rich. Bigger orifice opening and closing at the smaller inj rates.

Well, that is the thing, I don't want to change them out at home and then drive to the tuner pig rich and risk washing the cylinders with gas. That is why I was thinking about changing them out at his shop. Or if it's as simple as changing a value in the tune from 24.7 #/hr. to 42#/hr, then I guess it could be done mail order and everything could be done in my driveway.

If you get a set of 42# Multec injectors from Thunder Racing it's just as simple removing the fuel rails and replacing the injectors with the new ones. The Multec's are physically identical to the truck injector. Just bleed the pressure off of the fuel rails, remove the wiring and old injectors, lubricate the o-rings on the new injectors so they install easily in the bores and reconnect everything. It only takes about 30 minutes at the most and you ony need a few metric tool's like an 8 mm and 10 mm, that's really it, you don't even have to remove the fuel lines. If your halfway mechanically inclined you'll have no problem.

they're planted in there . . . like they grew roots and you're yanking them out with the injector.
If it was me, I would swap them there at your tuner, but bring tools to pull them. Get a large set of electrical pliers or some channel locks, a fuel line disconnect tool, and a ratchet for taking off the fuel rail.

I can't remember what tools I used, but when I swapped my 19 lb injectors out for 24lber's, I did it in under an hour (that was a couple years ago). If you had 2 sets of hands working on it, it would be even quicker
