Question A.I.R & EGR Headers?

im trying to pick up a set of shorty headers for my 4.8 4x4 to add to the no muffler, dual exhaust w/ X pipe setup im running. i seem to run into the question of wether i have A.I.R & EGR . can someone tell me what that means and how the best way to detect if i have either or neither on my truck?

You should have EGR, may or may not have AIR. EGR will be on the passenger's side exhaust manifold, there will be a pipe going from the ex manifold to an electronic valve, to the intake. If it has AIR, there will be an AIR pump with more ports going to both manifolds I believe...if you only see the EGR on the pass side, that's all you have.

FWIW, I wouldn't waste my money on shorties, I'd go for a good set of long tubes. I have shorties myself and the gains are very little to none. I'm saving up for some LT's.

I am willing to bet you have AIR and EGR on that truck.

My 99 doesn't have AIR...I think it depends if it has Cal or Fed emissions? I haven't seen too many NBS trucks with AIR personally, might have to do with being East Coast.

ASM's will fit, but require minor cutting and welding of the y-pipe. The Dynatech system will also bolt right in, and I've heard that the StainlessWorks will fit if you delete the EGR and AIR (if equipped).

i got the dynatech and mine is 2K. The first install my front DS hit the collector. and took a nice chunk out of it. Dynatech replaced it (they don't cover labor...as who does?) and with a wood 2X4 as a pry bar I shoved it against the outer wall and I'll tell ya...it's F-ing close, but it's been golden since. It sucks...the clearance, but from what I gather, you'll be happier with LT's.

I don't have AIR either. HAD EGR...trashed that recently.
