This time next year, turbo or not, you're gonna wish you started out with a 408.

Check out lingenfelter and SLP for whole new short blocks. LPE has redone LS1 short blocks with forged pistons for 2000 dollars. SLP has the 402's cast iron or aluminum blocks with good prices. If money is no option go for the LPE 427 short blocks.

well money is a big issue or else i'd do both lol. i'm limited. about 3700 to get eng done weather it be turbo or stroker and tires and hopefully a camper shell. and i would like to get my damn bed fixed where my wife jacknifed it into a trailor. so there is my delima. for a grand i could get rods and pistons for the 5.7 and through the turbo on there and make loads of power i'm sure but will my heavy *** truck be better with the bigger motor and turbo later. i'm gonning on about two trips to arkansas this year which is about 1700 mile one way. hint the reason i need the camper shell. but which will hold up better to the trips the 402 iron block or a forged rod ans piston ls1 with the turbo?

Id say the 402, if youre buying the short block, I doubt the 408 cost mutch more if any.

Since you already have the turbo i'd build what would be a good size engine for the turbo. Unless you bought it with the intentions of using it on the 4.8. What size turbo do you have?
