i MIGHT KICK MYSELF LATER

It shouldnt throw any ses lights or anything. tuning will help on this cam but i know of a z28 that had one that didnt have tuning and it worked fine. This cam will cause you to lose some bottom end but it should scream on the mid to top end. These cams have a awesome rumble to them. i should have mine here and istalled in the next three weeks. This cam will need a good stall and set of deeper gears. I might have to drill a hole in the tb since this will be on a automatic. hey i might be slow down low with these cam until i get a stall but damnit i will sound good.

you dont think a cam that big will throw any SES lights for a misfire code in a 5.3l? i woulda thought so

Without programming that cam will throw misfire codes left and right and won't idle for crap. But Hey, It's only about four hours work to swap it. Go for it and let us know how it works out for ya. But honestly if I were going to the trouble I'd do about a .560 or so lift. Just my $.02

Well when we put in the 5.7 it took the ecm a while to get used to it but it never died. that was in a m6 but i am thinking of just drilling the tb to make up for it. I dont have port work done so i dont think i will get the full use out of a bigger lift cam. This cam is a GM cam and the book said that it might take a while for the ecm to used to it but shouldn't require tuning. They might also be talking about a M6 to. The cam card from the company that ground his cam said it was smaller than was they claim. His was like a 216/ 227 duration instead of the 219/ 229 like they claim. If it trips trouble codes i can always turn them off with my diablo anyway. Do you think besides his being a m6, that it is the larger cubes that make this better for his than mine? The only problem we had during the time that we put in his cam was that the computer said we were running 24% lean and when we put a unported MAF with the wire back in his z28 it dropped to 5% lean. i dont think it had anything to do with the cam but we found out during that time. Thanks and keep your ideas or problems you fore see coming.

If I am going to swap it I might as well get what I want. If i go smaller then wehn the stall and gears get here I will wish I had gone bigger. For you guys that have done cam swaps, can a untrained ear tell you have done something different to your motors? I think I remember reading that one of you guys got one of the crane or comps that is on the 112 sep. I dont remember the specs but how is the idle? Can you get me a sound clip? I would think about going smaller but, call me crazy, I love that coppy crisp sound of that cam. Now if my truck had a nice lope that you could hear the cam rolling over than that would be nice too. It is strange how an old pickup with a with even 488 lift,non-roller hyd cam can sound good. I guess I have been around the dirt track scene running and hearing 550 to 640 lift big duration roller and solid tappet cams too long.

Yeah, you will definately be able to hear that cam. My buddy and I thought we had created a beast with the little Crane 208/216 .500/.500 113 lsa. (I don't know how to do sound clips)
Oh yeah...I just got my new valve springs today (2001 ZO6) They should do much better with the lower lift than the Comp 918s were doing. The Comp springs pulled the valves so hard back into the heads it was setting off the knock sensors.

I know i am beating this dog to death ... but....I called Tom { i think he name was tom} at Thunder Racing . He said that I wouldn't like the cam in my truck even with the 3200 stall and 4.10s. He said he would get the 212/218 comp on a 112 sep. he said someone got 45rwhp from the same cam with a 114 sep. He said the max he would go is 216/220/ 525/532 on 114 ls with maybe a 112 sep. He also said he would only go with a 2600 stall. I told him that alot of guys wished you had gone bigger when you got one around that size and that you guys loved the 3000 to 3200 stall. Man I am lost on this one. I got my money ready But i guess i need to make up my mind. On the 212/218 even with a 112 sep i dont htink i would get the crappy idle that i want.

Put the cam you want in. If you don't like it, it's a learning experiance. I have had the owner of MTI under the hood of my truck and with C1, tuning, heads, and the T/C I'm gonna put in, he thinks the truck wil run like a scaled *** ape. My mind is made up.
