Default i may have a problem...but how major is it.....

ok guys so i had a oil leak on my old 350..i lookd around and came with a conclusion that it could be coming from the intake/block back seal...
so i take the intake off and see some of the lifters higher than others.....my friend that is helping(just cause he had done the same to his truck a few yrs ago) said that really shouldnt be that way...now i really dont know this is the first time im tearing down an engine...

i also took the valve covers off to redo that seal.. and got to see that one of the rockers had hit the valvecover and another one had the stud longer than the rest..??????
any info would help guys..thanks...

the lifters are normal. cam is pushing the high ones up and the low ones are on the base circle of the cam lob.

lol.... here's what a cam looks like:

The lifters sit on the lobes of the cam, as the cam spins the lifters move up and down along the lobe.

As for all that gunk. You should scrape out as much as you can and probably change the oil. Considering the fact that you had an oil leak there, i'd say it's part of the gasket and dirt that got in where it was leaking.

you might need new studs.... That's out of my area of expertise. I don't know anything about pressing a new stud in. Dunno if you just tap one in or what
