When I orginally got my truck the first thing I did was but a 50 series single in/dual out flowmaster and honestly I did not notice any difference except the annoying sound. So since I found this site I have been planning on changing to a Magnaflow. So I chose the dual in dual out 5X8 18in magnaflow muffler. This muffler has the built in X-Pipe.
http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/shopexd.asp?zone=main&id=475
1. I just cut the stock Y-pipe right before the collector.
2. I used a tail pipe expander and made the old pipe round again.
3. I slid a pipe, I got from Autozone which is only 18 inches long with one end expanded, over the end of the old pipes.
4. Next I bought 2 sets of collector rings (summint racing PN# SUM-G4760, $4.88 for 2). I bolted the two rings together with a washer inbetween them and the slid them on to the pipe and welded each side.
5. Next I took off the pipes with the collecter rings attached. Unbolted them and removed the washers inbetween them and cut the pipe in half betweent he two rings.
6. Next I just reassemble all of it and welded everthing up.
The whole cost was only about
Magnaflow (ebay new) $89
2 sets of collector rings and gasket $25
Pipes (2 1/2, 18 in long) x 4 = $20
2 3inch turndowns = $8
total $142, not bad and I did it in my drive way in about 4-5 hours.
The performance. The magnaflow is so much better or maybe it is the true dual exhaust. But the SOTP meter does not lie and the truck is basically stock. I just have a CAI.
The Sound. With the 3 inch turn downs the muffler is very deep, not too loud while cruising but you can still hear it. At WOT it sounds awesome especially at around 5500 RPM.
My digital camera threw in the sponge so hopefully i can get my girlfriends and I can post some pictures.
The old system (pipe and muffler) should be on ebay soon to help recover some of the cost. So if i get $40 bucks then the total exhaust only cost $100.

Sweet, not a bad deal.
Btw, are you sure that muffler has the X-pipe inside it. I thought that only came in the larger version case.
The 22" versions say "Tru-X Perforated Core" on the description and the one you have doesn't.
Can you see the X inside?

Yep it had the X inside. Really neat design and cool looking on the inside. I was sure to look in it as see it. I thought the same thing while reading the ad they posted but I found a post on here that verified that the X as inside.
