It is a Tremec tranny and the NV3500 is a New Venture brand trans. The gear ratios are different as well as external appearance.
The nv3500 is the junker/s I kept blowing up. Sounds like the new ones are quite a bit better. If I had it all to do again ( as far as tranny swaps) I would've skipped the 4l60( 700r4) and went directly to a t-400 or 4l80e( if OD was still important to me). Once you start modding, it's hard to stop and it's much cheaper in the long run to buy/ replace parts that can and will handle just about anything you throw at them, ie; tranny, rear, driveshaft, etc.

On the subject of driveshafts, if they haven't updated or re-designed them already, that would be on my priority list. Tearing one in half at 130mph is scary as hell!

There is just so much power to be had out of a 4.8, from what I hear the bottom ends are bulletproof. It's amazing. One day i'm going to build up an S-10 project with one and boost the **** out of it.
