I finally decided on a cam!
#1
Well I finally decided on a cam. I wanted something with a near stock idle, with a good power increase in low and mid power with just a tad increase in high. I contaced LPE and found out that they are really a first class company. The cam that I am going to buy in the very near future is the
205/212 .540/.540 with the 116 lobe seperation. At first I was question the lobe seperation, but they told me since I am running a stock torque converter this is one of the largest cams I can go with. I also felt better about the lobe seperation when I found out that the LQ9 6.0 has the same seperation. I was also was suprised when they told me that I could gain 40rwhp with the cam.
My list includes
205/212 .540/.540 cam
7.400 Manley pushrods.
LS6 valve springs
Thunder Racing cam gasket kit
OEM replacement timing chain
SLP valve spring tool
Thunder Racing lifter tool
Any other insight on anything recommended would be appreciated.

I wouldnt expect 40...probably more like 25ish...Nice peak gain...you'll be giving up some midrange torque though with a lobe separation that wide and intake duration that low. That cam is actually smaller than the 02 LS6 cam. It will definitely wake the motor up on the top end though.

I talked to Thunder Racing and they suggested the comp cam 265 extreme lift cam.
The specs are 212/218 558/563 with a lobe of 115, but they told me that they would recomend the same cam with a 114 lobe seperation.
A plus with ordering through Thunder is that I can get it all in a kit.
What do you guys think?

yea, i'd go for it. I had a dyno chart of that cam on a 114lsa, and i just went to look at it yesterday and now the page wont come up! but it did pick up good power.
you might wanna think about future mods before you go straight for a camshaft.
any power adders, long tube headers, cylinder heads, stall converter, gears, more bolt ons, in your future?

I am thinking a set of mid lengths and a 2400 stall, but I did personally talk to the guy that had that cam installed in his truck and he still had stock manifolds and with the cam and a borla exhaust he picked up 40rwhp with a 4wd without a tune!

Yea I plan on getting a custom tune, My buddy that likes here in central Illinois has a friend that works on late model trucks, vettes, Firebirds etc, that lives in St Charles Mo. because he has a dyno next door and LS1 edit, From what I hear he has got one bad @$$ ex cab with a 6.0 that the motor is all built, and with a procharger that makes 600 rwhp!
