I still don't see why some people are slamming on the hypertech. It worked wonders for my truck. The only down side is you HAVE to run high octane. but you do get improved mileage as a trade off though.
As far as an intake, I have the Granatelli which is basically just like the K&N FIPK. It helped out a little but I just don't like the filter getting soaking wet every time it rains so I'd have to recommend the UPD. I wish That's what I'd bought.
Basically both will help you out a little bit and as they say every little bit helps. So my advice is to just keep your eye out for a good deal on either one and buy it first. And that sirs is my $.02

You will get more of a reduction of et in the 1/4 with the HPP3. The programmer will better control the shifts, making them more consistant and allowing you to adjust at what rpm you want the shifts. Not to mention raising the engine rev limiter which gives you good gains. Changing intakes for me only gave me 1 or 2 more mph with no real reduction in et. The programmer get the truck shifting right, going through the traps in 2nd and dropped 2 tenths consistantly and picking up a mph. Also a good exhaust system will help. I went from 87 mph to 91 mph with just these bolt ons. Then dropping the spare and tailgate got it to 93 mph. The HPP3 didn't seem to add much if any more power, just better control of power and consistancy.

I think you misunderstand the hpp3. With the hpp3 you'll pick up anywhere from 15-20 rwhp throughout the lower-mid rpm range. On my 01 I got better than 20 rwhp 3K up. I did only make 5 peak rwhp over stock tuning, but the rest of the rpm range was a whole lot better. With the intake, you may see 10 rwhp peak.

I guess the hpp3 must act differently on each truck or something. Mine has a LOT more grunt coming out of the whole and helps a little on the top too. If it didn't help, I'd throw it on ebay and sell it like yesterday but I am happy with it so far. And I didn't even mess with shift points or shift firmness.

You get more hp and a broader powerband with the hpp3 an that is why you're faster.

The guy asked what makes more hp and performance. You said intake makes more hp, hpp3 makes for more performance. I was correcting you. The hpp3 is the better mod over the intake. Both is better. I know you were pushing for the hpp3, I was letting the guy know the hpp3 will make for more hp and performance.
