Cool how reliable can a 370 be?

im wanting to build a LS engine for me 97 stepside. starting with a 6.0,
i was wondering, if i built a short block with forged pistons, stock rods and the stock crank shaft, what could it handle? Id like to use the l92 heads, a huge cam, single plane intake, and of coarse full exhaust. Id like to make about 450-500 horses at the crank on motor, than add a 150 shot of nitrous...

My question is could it handle it? i dont wanna be rebuilding this thing every 6 months. All tuning will be done by Wheatley

damn truck is moving thats for sure but back to the question.... i dont see why you couldnt reach your power goals but I would change out the connecting rods while your there or at least put some ARP bolts on them so they last. You can pick up some good rods pretty cheap and there good insurance to have, and i would just go with a new style factory intake to keep your tq up. With that said should be a pretty reliable motor it should handle a 150 shot all day no problem. All in all some pretty reasonable goals and a pretty reliable foundation. Good luck

ok thats what im after, good answers
what can the stock crank handle in these motors? ill have the entire rotating assm. balanced. im hoping to get my truck down to about 4500 pounds. its a ECSB 4x4, im hoping to break into the low 12s with this combo.

what are some good, strong rods for the 6.0? forged pistons?
ARP bolts will be used all through out the engine.

Not to sure what a stock crank will handle havnt messed one up yet lol but im sure it would be alright for your build and power goals maybe someone with more knowledge can chime in. And Eagle and Callies are good brands check out (speed-eng.com/store/) they carry some good stuff to help you out with your build.

Stock cranks will take 900-1000 hp.. You do a nice bottom end, boost it all day long. It will be just as reliable as a stock engine, as long as the tune is on, you don't over boost it.. I am partial to eagle stuff( not that there bad) But id your looking to do forged things, I would look into callies-lunati, along with weisco-diamond-prob pistons. All 3 of them have been proven over and over again( there are other brands, JE - Ross- Arias ect) but the other 3 are cheaper, still proven parts.. JFYI a stock engine on a good tune can take a 150 shot all day long without a problem.. If thats all your looking to do, put the jug on it, just save to do a forged engine, hit that with a 225 shot

Mangled is right, the stock crank & rods should be okay into the low 12's with proper tuning.

He asked about 12's. But I'm not sure if I'd take the stock rods to the 10's. Crank, no problemo.
