Default how much to rebuild a LS1

if you do it yourself. i have a buddy whos about to put a lq9 into his camaro. he's willing to sell his LS1 longblock to me for 450. it has 85,000 miles on it and runs great. 3000 miles or so ago he put in some 918's, pushrods and a ridiculous size cam that i could pull and sell (motor for 250 ). it will have the lq9 oil pan, and intake on it cuz he wants those for his car. im thinking about doing it, but would want to freshin everything up while its on a stand. what all will it consist of, and how much will it cost me if i go through with it?

also, ive never been past the valve covers on a motor whats the learning curve for a job like this? think i could get the job done?

is an ls1 a direct swap? as far as like the motor mounts and stuff? i know the PCM will have to be changed, but other then that, will everything swap over like the manifold and stuff?

yeah i saw that and gave my buddy a call about his heads when he does his swap. he said he would give me the heads...but 450 for a complete motor with 3000 mile 918's, pushrods and a cam i can sell i cant pass on. the motor dosent really need a rebuild, i just figure i might as well do it while its on a stand.

Unless you have a 6cyl, its the same, no need to change the PCM. Only the intake manifold, and accessory brackets, and possibly the water pump. But the long block is a direst swap.

I would say go for it Stew.. since you dont have to change PCM's and you can put your intake manifold and other needed accessories on there WHY NOT?!?!?! You'll be very happy with it and at that price I wouldnt let it slip away. If you are trying to be cost efficient, I wouldnt go through it unless you NEEDED to. I'd put it in and run it. maybe just tear it down and inspect some stuff.
