Default How much do our motors weigh?

Does anyone know what one of our long blocks (4.8 / 5.3) would weigh from intake to oil pan?

Nobody knows what a motor weighs? I wish I had a scale big enough to weigh mine while the motor was out
I would also like to know the weight of the aluminum 5.7

What about getting 4 scales with wood and blocks on 'em and then placing the engine on the wood. 4 scales rated to 200lbs each should be able to handle the heft. add all the weight up minus the supporting material and voila!

Do not know the weight of the engines, but seems I read somewhere that the aluminum blocks are about 100lbs. lighter than the iron blocks. Go to one of the websites that sell engines and see what the shipping weight is on one.

A hundred pounds off the front sure would be nice.
It wouldn't really concern me if it were in the back of the truck, but the front is the worst place to have weight. Oh well.

It would be nice but would you want to sacrifice the engine capacity as far as hp abd trq gos.!? You do know that the aluminum block cant hold as much power as the cast iron!!!?

Take a look at the dyno and the forced induction sections. Alot of guys are putting down some impressive #s with aluminum blocks. For outrageous #s they are using iron blocks, but 450-550 rwhp is enough to make me happy. A 5.7 aluminum block with a few bolt ons and a turbo would put you in the 500 range. It would also be a good daily driver. If you wanted more power simply turn up the boost.

I don't know about our engines in particular, but a small block chevy with iron block and heads and an aluminum intake, with water pump weighs about 500lbs. Aluminum heads can take off as much as 40lbs. So I'd say the 4.8/5.3's weigh close to 450lbs...with the LS1's weighing about 350lbs.

only 350lbs? That means if i catch someone leave one laying around, i could just pick it up and quietly walk off with it.

Hell of a free mod that would make. hahahaha

No,no, no...if you see that some one has left one lying around. Don't hurt yourself, let me know and I'll come help you out. Oh yeah, I seem to remember that Ford all iron small blocks only weigh about 425. So with an Al block/heads I can see 350 being possible.
