Default How to get 6.0 ready to swap?

I've been able to find several pull out 6.0 engines for under a grand . Their mileage ranges from 40 to 100k. What should I do before swapping it into my daily driver? I'd like to freshen it up and make sure its reliable, while still keeping it affordable

Do i need to tear it down myself? or having a shop rebuild it? I'm only looking to avoiding having oil consumtion problems and bring back like new performance and efficiency. Maybe bump up the compression to get the most out of my NA setup?

while its out, you could do anything, i would get a low miles motor, put a cam, new timing setup, oil pump, and to raise the compression get the heads worked over and milled, with all that most all gaskets would be replaced.

Yup. Re-vamp the oiling system. And a cam swap for damn sure.

Would a stock replacement oil pump and timing set be sufficient? What do you guys think of putting my TR224 in it? I'm looking for more low end then my current set-up. Its too much work using anything over 5000rpm in a daily driver.

So have you guys just thrown in the un-worked-over donor motor with no problems?

I dropped in a 2004 LQ4 in my truck, then the 65E took a dump. Got the 4L80E out the same truck and put a HD2 shift kit in it..
Both engine and trans had ~45k miles on them. came out of a wrecked truck. no problems and gets great gas mileage.

easy swap if its low miles dont mess with it unless your gonna cam it . and the tr 224 is supposed to be a good cam in these trucks.

we've swapped in a couple donor engines without doing anything except changing the oil/filter. One engine had approximately 20k miles and the other 75k miles. it wouldn't be a bad idea to add some rod end bolts while you've got it out if you plan spinning it to high RPMs. Other than that, anything else can be replaced fairly easily in the truck if it were to go out. You COULD upgrade to LS6 pump if you're going to cam it but it's no necessary if you're leaving stock internals.
